Insulation Removal Service

After rodents have decided to make your loft space home, they will naturally defecate and urinate within it. Mice naturally defecate around 50 - 75 times a day, meaning that most of the time your insulation will need removing to ensure no bacteria is left behind. Rats on the other hand choose to defecate in one spot, but their tails can carry a large amount of bacteria which they drag behind them, this also will mean your loft insulation will need to be removed to create a sanitary environment in the loft space.

It is imperative that a professional conducts this service. If you attempt this yourself it will be very easy to get sick if you use improper equipment or PPE. Our technicians when conducting these works use full PPE from head to toe, ensuring safety for themselves. And to ensure safety for yourself, all insulation will be double bagged and the access point for the loft will also be cleaned as well, making sure there is no cross contamination.

Our technicians use industry standard equipment and methods which ensures full disinfection and that no mouse droppings are left behind.

The Process For Rodent Cleaning In Loft Spaces

With ten years experience, we have established a process to ensure full disinfection and thorough cleaning of loft spaces after rodent infestations.

  1. Removal of all affected insulation.

  2. HEPA Vac of loose rodent waste.

  3. Manual wipedown and disinfection of affected areas.

  4. ULV fogging to eliminate airborne bacteria and malodour.

Step 1 - Removal of All Affected Insulation

Our technicians will bag all insulation within your loft space. Ensuring that once removed, we can get at any affected areas that have been contaminated by rodent waste.

Step 2 - HEPA Vacuuming

You should never vacuum rodent waste with a normal vacuum as the dust will be blown into the air, causing danger to yourself. However with our HEPA Vacuums, all dust is filtered within the machine, meaning there is no dangerous particulates left behind. We’ll vacuum any loose waste to ensure no visible contaminants are left behind.

Step 3 - Manual Wipedown of Surfaces

With the use of industry standard disinfectants, we will make sure that any areas the rodents have been, is fully disinfected and sanitised. All of the disinfectants we use are BS EN tested and compliant.

Step 4 - ULV Fogging:

The final phase is for our technicians to ULV fog your loft space. The ULV fogger will spray micro droplets of disinfectant around the loft, ensuring that no areas are missed. It will also disinfect the air, eliminating airborne contaminants up to 99%. It also helps with malodour within the loft space due to rodent faeces and urine.

The Dangers of Rodent Waste in a Loft

Rodent waste in your loft may seem like a problem you can leave and not worry about, however every time you enter the loft space you are potentially breathing in harmful pathogens and putting yourself at risk at catching an illness/disease.

These illnesses/diseases are as follows:

  • Bartonellosis

  • Capillariasis

  • Echinococcosis

  • Hantavirus

  • Leptospirosis

  • Rat bite fever

  • Rat Tapeworm

  • Salmonellosis

  • Toxoplasmosis

  • Trichinellosis

  • Tularemia

  • Weil’s disease

These can vary in severity however if your immune system is compromised or you have children in your property, the risk can be life-threatening.

Inhaling dust which is contaminated with rodent waste can put you at risk at catching these diseases. You can agitate this dust by moving through the insulation that the rodents may have contaminated.

As a loft space is also a confined space, it is easy to put your bare hand into an affected area. If you then touch your face, you increase your chances of becoming sick.

If rodents are still active within the loft, you put yourself at risk of being bitten or scratched by a rodent. If you ever are bitten or scratched by a rodent, you must go to the hospital to get checked over by a medical professional.
